Tracey Baran Passing

Very sad to hear the news of the passing of artist, photographer Tracey Baran.

I first met Tracey when she had a solo exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Photography, later over email and then at the Review Santa Fe at the Center in 2006.

Needless I’ve always been impressed with Tracey’s engaging and personal work and was just yesterday citing it to a student.

A memorial service is planned for this weekend details here:

Thank you for writing about this. I can’t stop thinking about Tracy and her work. I never met her in person but I saw one of her shows at her gallery in Chelsea years ago and it made a profound impact on me. Her work is so beautiful and haunting and left me with so many questions. Now, I have even more questions about her life and death.

I haven’t been able to find much about the cause of her death on the internet except that she was briefly ill. I’m not sure that I know anyone who actaully knew her well. I wish I could have made it to her memorial service but I am out of town.

I send my deepest regards to her friends and family. She was a uniquely gifted artist and the power of her work will remain with many of us – even those of us who never got to meet her in person.

I went to high school with Tracey. She actually died from an aneurysm. She was on vacation with Alex, her boyfriend and began to have seizures. She was hospitalized in Rhode Island for approx. 3 months and underwent several surgeries. Then went to her aunt’s house to pass with her family, once they determined she would never breathe on her own again. She will be missed!

Thank you for sharing this information about Tracey. I have been wondering what happened every day since I learned of her death. Her work is eerily beautiful, and I am so sorry for this tragic loss. I will keep looking at her images for a long time to come.
