For some time the wonderful Edna Cardinale at my gallery has been telling me about a series on the Sundance channel called Iconoclasts. I get a lot of recommendations for books, photographers, museums, etc… and this was one that I put on the shelf for some time before finally getting the chance to investigate further. Iconoclasts pairs two driven ambitious characters who are actors, inventors, activists, etc and pairs them in a relaxed and intimate conversation where each much simply teach the other about themselves and their greater projects.
I just finished watching episode 6 from season 2 on a flight back from NY which pairs Dave Chappelle and Maya Angelou in an absolutely fantastic conversation which touches on race, politics, fame, elders, history and most importantly the emphasis on each of our own importance in the larger scheme of our global life. A necessary, needed and dire dialogue these days, so I pass the recommendation along.
